Life in the Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum covers the six areas of learning: communication, language and literacy; mathematical development; creative development; physical development; knowledge and understanding of the world and personal, social and emotional development.

We have two Early Years Foundation Stage classes and a large outdoor area that we call our ‘outdoor classroom’. As all children learn in different ways and in different situations, so our indoor and outdoor areas have a range of activities that cover all the six areas of learning. Children have free access to all areas with adult supervision.

Each morning, the children are able to choose where they work, either in one of the two classrooms or in the outside area. The teachers and classroom assistants plan together and share assessments and observations of all the children.

Here you can see the children enjoying their inside and outside classrooms.
