children writing Common exception words are words in which the English spelling code works in an unusal or uncommon way. They are not words for which phonics 'don't work', but they may be exceptions to spelling rules or words which use a particular combination of letters to represent sound patterns in a rare or unique way. Some exception words are used frequently, which is why children are introduced to them very early on in their phonics learning. Please click here to see a sheet of common exception words which you can help your child to learn.

From September 2014 we have introduced a new style of joined handwriting that is being implemented across the whole school. Please take the time to view the handwriting style and support your child by practising letter formation as often as you can at home. This will improve their overall ability and confidence to join their letters when they are ready to do so.
Please click here to see a letter formation sheet.

If you require any more information on how to support your child’s learning then please come in and see us.
