Ofsted Inspection April 2017

Letter to Parents dated 3rd May 2017

As you will be aware, we welcomed an Ofsted inspector to the school the week before Easter.

The inspector was fair and professional in his inspection. He could clearly see that the many new initiatives and interventions that we have been putting into place are beginning to have a positive impact. However, he also recognised how the many staff changes (due to external factors to the school) have impacted on the consistency of teaching and learning. The overall judgement is that our school Requires Improvement.

The outcome of this report is disappointing to those who work so tirelessly for the benefit of our pupils. The report rightly highlights a number of strengths of our school, but we are not going to be complacent about the areas we need to improve. Despite the many positives that came out of the inspection, due to the nature of the Ofsted reporting guidelines, it is the improvement comments and concerns that take prominence. Please take the time to read the whole report.

Our Local Authority advisor is supporting us in writing an action plan against which we will be monitored by a separate advisor. It is important that you are aware of the process so you will receive regular updates in our newsletters. If you would like to come into school to discuss any points raised in this report, you are most welcome to join us for a Parents As Partners’ meeting on Thursday 11th May at 2.30 or
Tuesday 16th May 8.45 – 9.15am.

Our thanks to the senior leadership team and to all of the staff and pupils at the school. Being inspected in this way is extremely stressful for all of those involved, but everyone worked hard and the pupils were impeccably behaved throughout the visit and were a real credit to the school.

In addition to thanking all of the staff and pupils at the school, we must also thank you, all of our parents, carers and responsible adults for your continued and unfailing support of Rumboldswhyke. Thank you everyone.

Yours sincerely

Mrs S Lowe
Chair of Governors
For and on behalf of the Governors of Rumboldswhyke Church of England Infants’ School
