Transfer to Junior School

Moving on - the transfer from 'Infants' to 'Juniors'

We have a very comprehensive transition programme for children to transfer from key stage 1 to key stage 2 at the age of 7.  Teachers from Rumboldswhyke and Central Junior School regularly meet to discuss aspects of the curriculum and provision we make to enable the children to manage this important stage in their school lives.

We also have an Arts Day each June. when Year 2 children from Rumboldswhyke and Lancastrian Infant schools spend the day working with Year 3 children at Central School.  This enables the children from the two infant schools to meet prior to transferring in September and also have the chance to meet up with old friends in Year 3.  They have great fun, with workshops, in music, art, dance and drama.  After this very exciting day the children look forward to starting in their new classes.  This together with the meetings the Year 2 and 3 teachers have to discuss the needs of each child at the time of transition, enables the children to move on with confidence and the staff to plan to address their individual needs.
